Honda Yasushige (本多康重)
Yasushige HONDA (1554 - May 4, 1611) is a busho (Japanese military commander) in the Sengoku period (Japan). Daimyo (Japanese feudal lord) in the early Edo period. First lord of Okazaki Domain, Mikawa Province. First lord of the Honda family of the Hirotaka side.
First son of Hirotaka HONDA. His mother is the daughter of Tojo Yoshiharu MATSUDAIRA. His lawful wife is the daughter of Ienari ISHIKAWA. His children are Yasunori HONDA (eldest son), Norisada HONDA (third son), Shigeyoshi HONDA (fourth son), a daughter (lawful wife of Yorimizu SUWA), a daughter (lawful wife of Masatsune ASUKAI), a daughter (lawful wife of Toshishige HORI), a daughter (lawful wife of Yoshikatsu ENDO) etc. His official court rank is junior fifth rank, lower grade, Bungo no kuni no kami (Governor of Bungo Province).
His common name is Hikojiro. From his early times he served for Ieyasu TOKUGAWA, and raised his army for the Battle of Anegawa and battle with Shingen TAKEDA, and was known for his distinguished war service. Once Ieyasu got transferred to Kanto after the conquest and siege of Odawara, he received 20,000 koku in Shiroi Domain of Kozuke Province. After the battle of Sekigahara in 1601, he received 50,000 koku in Okazaki Domain of Mikawa Province.
On April 24, 1611, he died at the age of 58, and the eldest son Yasunori succeeded him. Graveyard : Senyo-ji Temple located at Yokosuka, Kakegawa City, Shizuoka Prefecture.
